Engineering work will be carried out Across The Uk.

Customers who receive Freeview may need to return their TV equipment if they find they are missing channels. Those using other services based on terrestrial TV such as YouTube, BT TV, or TalkTalk will also be affected.

For the majority of users a retune should restore TV services to normal more information on these changes is available via the Freeview Advice Line.

How to retune tv with built in freeview

Most Freeview HD TVs and Freeview HD Recorders prompt you to retune (rescan) when a change has occurred. Older products need to be manually retuned from time to time. This is usually a straightforward process. To manually retune you need to press ‘Menu’ on your remote control and follow the on-screen instructions or those printed in your manual. What happens next may vary slightly depending on which TV, recorder or set top box you have.

However, a typical TV Retune sequence is:

  • Step 1: Press menu on your box or TV remote control.

  • Step 2: Now select set-up, installation, update or similar option. If you’re asked for a password the default code is 1234 or 0000

  • Step 3: Now select the ‘first time installation’ option (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’). Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it is OK to delete existing channels. This will clear your existing settings and find the new channel line-up. If prompted then save the channels that are found.

Following a retune you may find that channel favourites and scheduled recordings are also deleted so check and reset these. However, recordings should not be deleted. Go to your manual for more information, or get in touch with the manufacturer.
